The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is excited to announce a $9.4 million investments in improving approximately 37 miles of paved and unpaved roads across Washtenaw County during the 2025 construction season. June 5, 2024 Hybrid Informational Session: Renew & Restore County-wide Roads & Non-motorized Millage

Washtenaw County, Wednesday, June 5, 2024 The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) and the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission (WCPARC) invites the public to a hybrid informational session on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. to learn more about the renew and restore 0.5 mill four-year county-wide roads and non-motorized millage (Proposal A). WCRC encourages residents to join the conversation either in person or in a Zoom meeting.

  • Event: Renew & Restore Roads & Non-motorized Millage Informational Session
  • Date:   Monday, June 24, 2024
  • Time:  11:30 a.m.
  • In-person: Washtenaw County Road Commission, 555 North Zeeb Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48103
  • Zoom Link: https://bit.ly/wcrcprojectmeeting , or by phone: (929) 205-6099, Meeting ID: 879 2332 8754

Washtenaw County voters are being asked on the August 6, 2024, ballot to renew and restore the 0.5 mill four-year county-wide roads and non-motorized millage (Washtenaw County Proposal A). This is not a new tax for voters. If renewed and restored, the 0.5 mill is expected to generate approximately $10.9 million per year for roads and non-motorized pathway projects. WCRC would receive approximately $4.9 million per year for road work in 20 townships, Cities would receive approximately $3.8 million per year, with specific allocations based on the amount raised within cities borders, and WCPARC would receive approximately $2.2 million per year to support the expansion of the county non-motorized path network through the Border-to-Border Trail Project (B2B Trail) and the Connecting Communities Grant Program.

“Since its inception a decade ago, the county-wide roads and non-motorized millage has consistently delivered on its promise to improve the roadways, bridges, and non-motorized pathways in Washtenaw County,” said Matthew MacDonell, Managing Director of Washtenaw County Road Commission. “Through strategic investments and careful planning, we have witnessed significant progress in addressing the condition of our critical infrastructure.”

“The Roads and Non-motorized Millage is a testament to the power of collective action and community investment. As we look towards the future, we are confident that our continued partnership with WCRC, Township, and City leaders and residents will enable us to build upon past successes and pave the way for a brighter, more resilient tomorrow,” said Coy Vaughn, Director of Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission.

More than 70% of county voters approved of the four-year, 0.5 mill roads and non-motorized millages in 2016 and 2020. With widespread support from our residents, the proposed Roads and Non-motorized Millage has consistently demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing the needs of our community.

The Roads and Non-motorized Millage have been a vital lifeline for our community, providing the necessary resources to improve our road infrastructure and non-motorized pathways, says Chuck Tellas, Supervisor for York Township. Our Township remains committed to working collaboratively with WCRC and WCPARC to ensure that our roads and non-motorized facilities remain safe, accessible, and well-maintained for the future.”

May 22, 2024 Project Update #11: N. Territorial Rd & Dexter Town Hall Rd Safety Improvements (Dexter Twp)

Our safety improvement project at the intersection of N. Territorial Rd & Dexter Town Hall Rd in Dexter Township has been delayed due to inclement weather.

Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused damage to the project. Because the project is still awaiting the top layer of asphalt, the curb and gutters did not function as intended during the rain event.

The contractor inspected the site earlier this week and has taken responsibility for repairing the damages. The contractor has started the repairs. They anticipate that several days of repair work will be necessary to achieve a satisfactory condition for paving.

The contractor has indicated that the tentative schedule for paving the top layer of asphalt is pushed to late next week due to the repairs. Once the paving is completed, the contractor will install gravel shoulders, centerline rumble strips, and pavement markings.

As a reminder, the intersection of N. Territorial Rd & Dexter Town Hall Rd remains CLOSED to the traveling public. The contractor has a significant amount of work to complete before the road can be safely opened to the public. Access is only maintained for residents who live or work within the project limits. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will continue to send out updates as the project progresses.

Once that is completed, the contractor will place the wearing course (top layer) of asphalt. Next comes the placement of centerline rumble strips, aggregate (stone) shoulders, sign upgrades and pavement markings.

As a reminder, despite the completion of the asphalt pavement, the intersection of N. Territorial Rd & Dexter Town Hall Rd remains closed to the traveling public. The contractor has a significant amount of work to complete before the road can be safely opened to the public. Access is only maintained for residents who live or work within the project limits.
