WHY: Culvert replacement–completed
BACKGROUND: On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) reopened Warren Rd between Dixboro Rd and Thornwood Ct in Ann Arbor Township.

J. Sebastian Trucking & Excavating, the contractor on behalf of the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC), is working to complete the culvert replacement. They have finished backfilling the new culvert, regraded the roadside slope, completed the guardrail installation, and have begun rebuilding the gravel roadway and shoulder.
Warren Road continues to remain closed to all traffic. A signed detour is in place.

WHERE: Warren Rd between Dixboro Rd and Thornwood Ct in Ann Arbor Township
WHY: Culvert replacement
BACKGROUND: On Friday, October 31, 2025, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) has extended the closure by two weeks of Warren Rd between Dixboro Rd and Thornwood Ct in Ann Arbor Township for a culvert replacement.
The work began on September 15, 2025 and is now expected to take approximately 9 weeks to complete. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions.
The road will be closed to all through traffic.

ISSUE DATE: 10/31/25
During the week of October 20, 2025, J. Sebastian Trucking & Excavating, the contractor working on behalf of the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) completed the backfill necessary to secure the culvert into place on Warren Rd between Dixboro Rd and Thornwood Ct in Ann Arbor Township. The contractor also removed the construction dam and bypass pumps to allow the tributary to Fleming Creek to flow freely again.
Next steps:
- Continued backfilling of the culvert up to road elevation
- Roadside slope work on the north/south sides of Warren Rd
- Guardrail installation
As part of the project, this section of Warren Road continues to be closed to all traffic. A signed detour is in place.

During the week of October 13th, J. Sebastian Trucking & Excavating, the contractor working on behalf of the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC), installed the wingwalls (vertical retaining walls) and began backfilling the culvert with sand on Warren Rd between Dixboro Rd and Thornwood Ct in Ann Arbor Township.
Next steps:
- Placement of riprap (stone) for stream (scour) control
- Removal of the temporary dam, returning the stream flow through the new culvert
- Continued backfill up to the elevation of the road

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, following the placement of bedding material, J. Sebastian Trucking & Excavating, the contractor working on behalf of WCRC, used a crane to lower the new culvert into place on Warren Rd between Dixboro Rd and Thornwood Ct in Ann Arbor Township.
Next steps include initial placement of backfill material around the new culvert and installation of wingwalls (at each end of the culvert ). Once backfilling is complete, the contractor will begin placing stone riprap (rocks to prevent erosion) and reconstructing the road.

On Friday, September 26, 2025, the WCRC contractor J. Sebastian Trucking & Excavating completed the assembly of the culvert to be placed under Warren Road between Dixboro Road and Thornwood Court in Ann Arbor Township.
Next steps include setting up erosion control, diverting the stream, and removing the existing culvert.

Project begins
Starting Monday, September 15, J. Sebastian Trucking & Excavating began construction operations to replace a large culvert on Warren Road between Dixboro Road and Thornwood Court in Ann Arbor Township.
As part of the project, this section of Warren Road is now closed to all traffic. A signed detour is in place. Delivery of the new culvert structure began today, and on-site assembly and installation is expected to take several weeks.

WHY: The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will hold a virtual project information meeting regarding plans to convert a culvert to a bridge on Warren Road just west of Dixboro Road in Ann Arbor Township.
During construction, Warren Road will be closed to through traffic between Thornwood Court and Dixboro Road. Motorists will not be able to cross at the bridge location. However, access will be maintained for residents and those who work within the construction zone. A paved-road detour will be posted to direct all other traffic.
The virtual public meeting will be held via Zoom on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 11 a.m. There will be a brief presentation followed by time for questions from the audience. A recording of the meeting will be posted to the project web page after the meeting.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will be replacing the existing culvert with a bridge on Warren Road, just west of Dixboro Road in Ann Arbor Township.
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-to-late summer. The open to traffic will be early October, depending on weather conditions.
During construction, Warren Road will be closed to through traffic between Thornwood Court and Dixboro Road. Motorists will not be able to cross at the bridge location. However, access will be maintained for residents and those who work within the construction zone. A paved-road detour will be posted to direct all other traffic.
Utility relocation work has already been completed. The next steps include demolishing the existing culvert, followed by delivery and assembly of the new bridge structure.
WCRC will continue to provide updates throughout the project. Please note that all dates are tentative and may change due to weather or scheduling.
