Working on the Abutments

By August 30, 2019Project Updates

This month’s beautiful weather has meant we’ve been able to make good progress on the Saline-Milan Road Bridge Replacement Project in York Township.

Our contractor is finishing up the supports for the southern bridge abutment. Soon, a special concrete blend called tremie will be poured in southern abutment (it has already been placed in the northern abutment). The tremie will seal the bottom of the excavation and allow the contractor to pump the water out so they have a dry platform to build the bridge substructure.

A subcontractor continues working on the soldier piles for the retaining wall on the eastern side of the road. Unfortunately, they’ve encountered some pretty large rocks buried underground during this process, so they brought in special equipment this week to help.

If you have questions about the bridge project, please contact Nate Murphy, bridge engineer, [email protected], (734) 327-6647.
