Latest Updates
The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is pleased to announce plans for a major safety and traffic improvement project at the intersection of Curtis Road and N. Territorial Road in Salem Township.
While construction is not slated to begin until 2028, WCRC has successfully secured a $1.4 million federal Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) grant to fund the project. This funding commitment ensures the intersection can be transformed into a modern single-lane roundabout to address safety concerns while minimizing traffic delays.
“By identifying high-priority locations, we can secure the necessary federal aid to make these vital upgrades a reality,” said Kevin Dubnicki, WCRC Project Manager. “A roundabout at this location is the right long-term solution to reduce the risk of severe crashes and keep traffic moving efficiently as the area continues to grow.”
The intersection was prioritized following WCRC’s routine monitoring, which identified significant peak-hour delays and a history of angle crashes.
What Residents Should Know
- Timeline: The project is currently in the preliminary design phase, with federal funds programmed for the 2028 construction season.
- Public Meetings: As the design phase continues, WCRC will host information meetings to share detailed plans and gather community feedback.
- Construction Impact: When work begins in 2028, the intersection will require full closure to ensure the safety of both crews and the public. Detour routes will be established and communicated at that time. For more information visit the project web page here. Sign up for WCRC project updates here.
