The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) has revised the timeline for the Werkner Road improvement project between Sibley Road and M-52 in Sylvan Township.
The project, which includes a culvert replacement north of Ivey Rd, was initially planned for 2026. In July, WCRC received contractor bids for the planned culvert and roadwork, including resurfacing, paving, drainage, and shoulder improvements. The bids came in 53% above the engineer’s estimate, WCRC rejected them to ensure the responsible use of public funds.
WCRC crews will perform the culvert replacement in Fall 2026. This will require closing Werkner Road to complete this work. The detour located on our website will be utilized during the culvert replacement. The detour can be found here.
WCRC will repackage the roadwork portion of the project for construction in 2027. A specific schedule will be shared with the public once a contract is awarded.
WCRC appreciates the community’s patience as it works to secure the best value for this infrastructure investment.
