Carpenter Road Project Plan

By September 11, 2019Project Updates

The Carpenter Road resurfacing project, originally planned for 2019, will not begin in earnest until the spring of 2020. This schedule change is due to contractor availability and the road project bidding process.

This fall, our contractor will conduct some traffic signal work in preparation for the improvements coming next year. Area utilities will also be relocated during the fall and winter. Carpenter Road between Ellsworth Road and Packard Road will remain open during this work but there may be intermittent lane restrictions.

In the spring, our contractor, Cadillac Paving, will begin the road resurfacing project. Carpenter Road between Ellsworth Road and Packard Road will be milled and then a new layer of asphalt will be placed. Our contractor will also repair some damaged curb and storm sewer before the road work has been completed. In partnership with the Washtenaw County Water Resource Commissioner’s Office, our contractor will also construct a rain garden in the road right-of-way near Home Depot to help with storm water management. In addition, Pittsfield Charter Township has partnered with DTE Energy to install street lighting along the corridor.  We are working with all agencies to coordinate construction whenever possible.

Carpenter Road between Ellsworth Road and Packard Road will remain open to traffic during this entire project but there will be lane closures and delays, especially in the spring/summer 2020. We will host a public information meeting early next year to provide more information.
