The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is excited to announce a roundabout project planned for the 2020 construction season at the intersection of Textile Road and Woodland Drive on the border of Pittsfield Township and the City of Saline.
What will the improvement look like? WCRC will build a roundabout at this intersection. A roundabout is the ideal solution because it can move traffic through an intersection more safely than the current configuration.
Why this intersection? In 2017, WCRC applied for a grant to improve the intersection from the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Improvement Program. This intersection was identified based on crash history and concerns expressed by residents. WCRC was awarded the $455,000 grant in February 2018. WCRC is working to partner with the City of Saline on this project.
When will this project be completed? Construction is expected to take place during the summer of 2020. It is estimated WCRC and its contractor will take 3 – 4 months to build the roundabout. During this time, the intersection will be completely closed to traffic and a detour will be posted.
How can I get more information? WCRC staff will be presenting a project overview at the November 19, 2018 City of Saline Council Working Session at 6 p.m. WCRC will also hold a public information meeting in early 2019.
In addition, WCRC will post project updates online at www.wcroads.org and on its Facebook and Twitter pages. Visit www.wcroads.org/residents/subscribe-to-road-updates/ to subscribe to project updates via email.
