Project Announcement: Textile Rd Safety Improvement (Ypsilanti Twp)

By September 12, 2025Project Updates

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is moving forward with a Safety Improvement Project on Textile Road between Huron River Drive and Bridge Road in Ypsilanti Township, scheduled for construction in summer 2026.

The project includes the installation of a center left-turn lane and a new traffic signal at Bunton Road. These upgrades are aimed at improving safety along this busy corridor.

“This stretch of Textile Road has seen a number of serious crashes,” said Elena Yadykina, Project Manager at WCRC. “These improvements are designed to reduce crashes and make the road safer for everyone who travels through the area.”

The project was identified in the Local Safety Initiative (LSI) program administered by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Based on crash data and traffic analysis, safety improvements were found to be warranted. WCRC was awarded a $750,000 Safety grant to fund the majority of the work. Under program guidelines, these funds are designated solely for this project and cannot be used elsewhere.

Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026. Details regarding lane restrictions or closures will be shared during a virtual public information meeting ahead of construction. Meeting details will be announced at a later date.
