Project Announcement: Park Rd at Zeeb Rd Roundabout (Scio Twp)

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) has secured federal funding to construct a modern, single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Park Road and Zeeb Road in Scio Township. This busy intersection will be transformed to improve safety, ease traffic flow, and provide long-term benefits for drivers, residents, and the surrounding community.

Federal assistance was secured in 2025, and construction is scheduled to begin in 2028.

“Roundabouts offer notable enhancements in safety and traffic flow for all road users,” said Neeko Robison, WCRC Project Manager. “Additionally, this project is expected to alleviate congestion and reduce vehicle idling at intersections.”

WCRC regularly reviews intersections across Washtenaw County to identify areas needing safety improvements and congestion relief. The Park Road and Zeeb Road intersection was chosen as a priority due to ongoing traffic delays during peak hours.

Compared to conventional signalized intersections, roundabouts can decrease injury crashes by up to 75% and nearly eliminate fatalities, according to the Federal Highway Administration. Their continuous traffic flow design not only increases safety but also shortens commute times and reduces maintenance costs over the years.

During construction, the intersection will be fully closed to traffic for several weeks. Advance notice of detours will be provided, and WCRC will keep the public updated through the project website and other communication channels.

WCRC will hold a virtual public information meeting, allowing residents to learn more about the project’s design, timeline, and traffic impacts, and to ask questions directly to the project team.
