We plan to construct a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Pontiac Tr and N. Territorial Rd in Salem Township this summer.
We have a lot of prep work to do prior to road construction, including some this winter. Over the next two months, our contractor will remove approximately 200 trees of various sizes within the project area. These trees are being removed to make room for the new alignment of the intersection and to allow for the required road drainage improvements. We plan to have all tree removals completed by March 31, 2022. Individual property owners impacted by this work have already been contacted by our staff.
In addition, various utility relocations will take place this winter and spring, prior to road construction. These relocations will interrupt traffic intermittently. We will send out advisories ahead of any lane closures or traffic restrictions.
Construction of the roundabout is expected to begin in the summer. WCRC estimates it will take approximately 10 to 12 weeks to build the roundabout, weather pending. Once roundabout construction begins this summer, the intersection of Pontiac Tr and N. Territorial Rd will be closed to ALL traffic and a detour will be posted. Our contractor will maintain access only for residents and property owners who live, rent or own property within the project limits during construction.
We will host a virtual construction information meeting this spring to provide additional information.
