Miller Rd: Prep Work Continues

By April 8, 2021Project Updates

We continue our preparation work for paving and eventually reopening Miller Rd in Scio Township. Our plan is to have everything wrapped up and the road reopened in June.

While it looks like one closure, we are working on two major projects:

  1. Finish the Miller Rd bridge
  2. Resurface Miller Rd between Zeeb Rd and Wagner Rd

Here’s a summary of each project:

Finish the Bridge

Our contractor, Fonson, plans to be back on site the last week of April. They have been waiting for MDOT’s seasonal suspension to end, as well as for asphalt plants to reopen (plants are estimated to reopen in mid-April).

Once Fonson is back on site, they have the following items to do before the bridge is considered completed:

  • Remove of temporary asphalt that was added last fall
  • Prepare the sub-base and base of the road
  • Pour concrete curb at the bridge, concrete spillways and concrete driveways (concrete will need time to cure)
  • Pave the bridge deck with asphalt
  • Install guardrail
  • Place pavement markings and signs

Resurface Miller Rd

WCRC crews have completed three of the five crossroad culverts between Peters Rd and W. Delhi Rd this week. They have two more to do and plan to finish them early next week. There will be brief daytime closures during this culvert work.

WCRC crews also have some ditching work to complete. This ditching work will take place under lane restrictions over the next few weeks.

Once Fonson has paved the bridge deck, our paving contractor, Cadillac, will pulverize and resurface Miller Rd between Zeeb Rd and the bridge and between the bridge and Wagner Rd. Miller Rd will remain closed for this work. Paving these sections will take approximately two weeks. Access for all local residents living within the Miller Rd work will be maintained at all times during the resurfacing work.

Miller Rd between Zeeb Rd and Wagner Rd will reopen once all of this work has been completed.
