Roads in Review

February 2020
Saline Township partnered with us to replace a failing culvert on Marion Road -
the first official construction project of the year!
It may not look like it outside but the 2020 construction season is already underway!

Thanks to the irregular winter, we have already completed three culvert replacement projects, in partnership with Saline Township and York Township. We have a lot more construction planned throughout 2020. More projects will be added to the schedule after we meet with townships in the coming months to discuss local road projects.

Check out the stories below to learn more about our 2020 plans.

Moon Road in York Township was reopened in early-February after York Township partnered with us to replace two failed culverts.

Come Chat with Us!

Over the next few months, we will be rolling out new ways for the public to connect with us. First up - we are now hosting "Chat with the Road Commission". These events are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. and are casual drop-in sessions where anyone can come to speak informally with WCRC leadership before the regular board meeting.

Get to Know Your Road Commissioners

Meet Road Commissioner Rodrick K. Green

Commissioner Rod Green loves people.

This is a very good thing since as a pastor, lawyer, former township trustee and now road commissioner, he works with people every day in Washtenaw County and throughout SE Michigan to solve problems.

Winter is Finally Here

While this winter's weather has been a little odd, our crews continue to be ready for any weather Mother Nature throws our way. Every year our board approves the Winter Maintenance Guidelines outlining when different types of roads get addressed during a winter storm. Check out the graphic below for a summary of these priorities.

Ready for More Orange Barrels?

We've been working hard to compile the list of projects for the 2020 construction season.

It is going to be a very busy year, including:
  • More than 100 miles of seal coat (chip seal)
  • More than 30 miles of asphalt paving
  • 2 bridge and at least 5 culvert replacement projects
  • 3 new single-lane roundabouts

Roads and Non-Motorized Millage

In 2019, we improved more than 37 miles of county roads with funds generated by the four-year, 0.5 mill roads and non-motorized millage passed by voters in 2016. We plan to improve another 43 miles of road in 2020, the last year of the millage program.
