June 18, 2025 Project Announcement: Scio Church Rd at Zeeb Rd Roundabout (Lodi, Scio Twps)

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is pleased to announce an upcoming safety and traffic improvement project at the intersection of Scio Church Road and Zeeb Road in Lodi and Scio Townships.  This busy intersection will be converted into a modern roundabout—bringing long-term benefits for drivers, residents, and the surrounding community.

The federal aid funds were programmed in 2023, and construction is currently slated to begin in 2026.

“Roundabouts make a real difference in how safely and smoothly people can get where they need to go,” said Neeko Robison, WCRC Project Manager. “By reducing serious crashes and easing congestion, this project will make daily travel safer for everyone—from families heading to school to local businesses moving goods. It also helps the environment by cutting down on the time cars spend idling at stop signs or signals.”

WCRC regularly monitors intersections across the county to identify opportunities for safety upgrades and congestion relief. The Scio Church and Zeeb Road intersection was selected as a high-priority location due to significant traffic delays during peak hours and a history of angle crashes.

Unlike traditional signalized intersections, roundabouts have been shown to reduce injury crashes by up to 75% and virtually eliminate fatal crashes. Their continuous flow design not only improves safety but also decreases commute times and lowers long-term maintenance costs.

As part of the construction process, the intersection will be fully closed to all traffic for several weeks. A detour route will be clearly posted in advance, and WCRC will provide timely updates through the project webpage and other communication channels.

A virtual public information meeting is scheduled for Fall 2025, where residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the project design, timeline, and traffic impacts—and ask questions directly to the project team.
