The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is pleased to announce an upcoming infrastructure improvement project for the 2027 construction season. The planned construction will take place on Hewitt Road between Packard Road and M-17 (Washtenaw Avenue) in Ypsilanti Township.
Thanks to federal Community Project Funding secured by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, the $1.6 million project will include a full 5-lane resurfacing of Hewitt Road along with road widening to provide dedicated bike lanes and a sidewalk along the east side of Hewitt Rd.
This investment addresses both immediate transportation needs and long-term community goals. The corridor plays a critical role as an emergency response route, and the planned upgrades will significantly improve safety, access, and usability for all road users including pedestrians and cyclists.
“This project has been a top priority for some time,” said Neeko Robison, Project Manager. “Not only are we improving road conditions for all vehicles, but we’re also creating safer, more accessible options for pedestrians and cyclists. It’s a smart, forward-thinking investment in the future of our transportation network.”
A public information meeting will be scheduled to provide additional details and answer questions from residents, business owners, and other stakeholders.
