Matthew F. MacDonell, P.E., director of engineering at the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) has been named the new county highway engineer for Washtenaw County. MacDonell has been a key part of the WCRC engineering team since he joined the agency in 2006. MacDonell will remain the director of engineering, a position he was promoted to in the spring of 2018.

Prior to MacDonell’s appointment, Sheryl Soderholm Siddall served as the county highway engineer from 2011 – 2019. Siddall remains the managing director, a role she was appointed to in the spring of 2018.

Under Michigan county road law, a board of county road commissioners is required to employ a competent county highway engineer who shall “make surveys ordered by the board, prepare plans and specifications for roads, bridges, and culverts, and exercise general supervision over construction to ensure that the plans and specifications are strictly followed”.
