September 22: Working Session, Board Meeting & Projects

By September 22, 2023Employee Communications

Good morning,

It’s been a busy week for our crews! While construction of the new culvert under Old US-12 in Sylvan Township wraps up, construction on Martz Rd in Ypsilanti Township, and Prospect Rd in Superior Township, has recently begun. Our crews were able to replace two crossroad culverts and perform necessary drainage work on Martz Rd, between Whittaker Rd and Tuttle Hill Rd, earlier this week to prepare for resurfacing. Currently, crews are working to replace a crossroad culvert on Prospect Rd just south of Cherry Hill Rd. It looks like both roads will soon have fresh pavement. Shout out to our crews who have worked tirelessly the past few weeks to complete these projects before the snow falls.

During our board working session, our IT department gave a thoughtful presentation about our current standing with our technical equipment and needs. As I am sure some of you noticed, our IT department has been working hard to improve security around the building with key card access, replace outdated IT equipment and transition our Z drives to OneDrive. Thank you to our IT department for all your hard work! Additionally, I provided a presentation to the board on the proposed millage renewal for 2024. I explained to our board that in years past, millages have been a phenomenal tool for our organization to acquire revenue and continue to preserve many of our primary roads that we otherwise couldn’t.

During our board meeting, commissioners designated Warren Rd between Nixon Rd and Dixboro Rd in Ann Arbor Township as a natural beauty road. Furthermore, our board approved our engineering department to move forward with preliminary design efforts for a roundabout at the intersection of Mast Rd, Joy Rd and Huron River Dr. If you have ever had to drive through this intersection, I’m sure you know how happy our residents will be knowing that improvements are coming to this awkward 5 leg intersection.

It looks like the weekend forecast calls for sunny, fall weather! I hope you all get to enjoy it.

Take care & stay safe
