September 11: Futures for Frontliners

September 11, 2020

Good Afternoon,

Today is Patriot Day, a day when we remember the thousands of people who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. Many of us remember exactly where we were when we heard the news. For some of us, we were working right here, serving the people of Washtenaw County.

19 years later, we’re still serving the people of Washtenaw County, but we find ourselves facing a different set of challenges. I’m so proud of the essential services we have provided and continue to provide.

The people of Michigan are also thankful for our and many others’ essential work. In recognition of this, the State of Michigan has created “Futures for Frontliners,” a scholarship program that pays for essential workers, like you, to attend your local community college tuition-free. These scholarships allow frontline workers the opportunity to earn an associate degree or skills certificate while you work.

If you are interested in furthering your education, visit Michigan.gov/frontliners to find out more. The program is for Michiganders who have not yet earned an associate or bachelor’s degree. Applications are due by December 31, 2020. This program can also be paired with our existing Tuition Reimbursement Program in certain circumstances.

I really hope you take advantage of this program if you are interested.

Looks like we have a beautiful weekend ahead of us, enjoy!

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
