Sept. 23: The Start of Dry Run

By September 23, 2022Employee Communications

Good afternoon,

Happy Fall! I think for the first time, in a very long time, Mother Nature actually read the calendar – 80’s on the last day of summer and then 60’s on the first day of fall. πŸ‚

In line with the changing seasons, we started Dry Run this week. Dry Run is our annual process of preparing people and equipment for winter. Each fall, it is an all-hands-on-deck effort in the operations department, especially for our mechanics and shop. Crews switch over equipment on the trucks, make repairs and paint where necessary and begin to familiarize themselves with their snow routes. While we have been doing this for over 100 years, I’m so thankful we are back to a more β€œtraditional” Dry Run this year.

We also started to receive our pre-season salt deliveries. So far, we have received more than half of our pre-fill order. Deliveries will continue through at least next week.

Finally, Dry Run also impacts our engineering and administration departments as they wrap up summer construction projects and prepare for winter work.

Thank you for your efforts as we prepare for the upcoming season.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
