Seasonal Weight Restrictions SUSPENDED

By March 14, 2023Road Advisories

WHAT: Seasonal Weight Restrictions – SUSPENDED

WHEN: Effective Friday, March 17, 2023, at 6 a.m.

WHERE: County-wide

BACKGROUND: The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will SUSPEND the Seasonal Weight Restrictions effective Friday, March 17, 2023, at 6 a.m.

The Seasonal Weight Restrictions went into effect beginning February 8, 2023. Typically, each spring, in accordance with the state law, the Road Commission reduces the weight and speed limits for trucks. As temperatures begin to rise and the ground begins to thaw, the moisture results in a significant loss of strength for our roadways. The road’s ability to carry weight is reduced, meaning that a weight that would not affect a road under normal conditions, might now damage the road. These restrictions help to extend and preserve the life of the roadways.
