WHY: Preventative maintenance – fog seal
BACKGROUND: Starting on Thursday, September 8, 2022, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will begin preventative maintenance fog seal projects on N. Territorial Rd between Mast Rd and Dixboro Rd in Webster and Northfield Townships and 7 Mile Rd between E. Shore Dr and Earhart Rd in Northfield Township.
This work was originally scheduled to begin within the past few weeks but was delayed due to crews being pulled to other projects based on equipment availability.
The work on these roads is expected to take three days to complete. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions.
Fog seal is another thin layer of liquid asphalt placed on top of a recent chip seal that helps to seal in the chips and further protect the pavement.
The work will be conducted under a combination of lane restrictions and daytime closures to allow the fog seal to cure. A contractor for WCRC will return to this area in a few weeks to place permanent pavement markings.
