Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) staff have been diligently working with the project contractor (E.T. MacKenzie) and our construction materials consultant to develop and evaluate a revised pavement section. This revision has been prompted by underlying soil conditions on Bemis Rd between Stony Creek Rd and Hitchingham Rd in Augusta and Ypsilanti Townships.
After the July 4th holiday, the Contractor will return to Bemis Rd to strip vegetation, construct ditches, and install storm sewer. The installation of a large box culvert at Hewen’s Drain is currently scheduled for July 14th.
While the above noted revisions were being incorporated into the project plans, WCRC crews continued routine maintenance activities, including the removal of roadside vegetation in anticipation of the Contractor’s presence on site. As pictured below, the WCRC District 2 crew removed vegetation for construction staking and updated the WCRC’s new Project Manager, Jane Allen, on the maintenance history of Bemis Road.
Bemis Rd between Stony Creek Rd and Hitchingham Rd will be closed for approximately 12 weeks to accommodate the road reconstruction, weather permitting.
WCRC will provide further updates as additional information becomes available and as the project progresses.
