On July 28, 2026, the contractor working on behalf of the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) began milling (removing) the existing road surface on Old US-12 between the Jackson County Line and I-94 in Sylvan Township. The contractor subsequently began asphalt paving, completing the paving on August 8, 2026. Aggregate shoulder material was placed along the new pavement edges. Traffic was maintained during these operations with a lane closure and traffic regulators (flaggers).
In the coming weeks, new permanent pavement markings will be added to the freshly paved surface.
