November 5: New Pandemic Developments

Good afternoon,

It has been another busy week. We saw our first snowflakes, reopened some major roads after successful projects (check out the pictures below) and are working hard to get both our equipment and road system ready for winter. Thank you to everyone for your efforts!

There have also been some major developments in the pandemic. Earlier this week, the CDC signed off on vaccines for 5 – 11-year-old children. Then yesterday, OSHA announced its COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Emergency Temporary Standard. This federal standard, first announced by President Biden in September, applies to employers who have more than 100 employees, and is likely to apply to WCRC. It requires employers who are covered under this standard to adopt a vaccination policy. This policy may mandate employees to be fully vaccinated by January 4, 2022 or allow for a weekly testing option.

Michigan is one of 22 states which have their own safety plans covering both private sector and state/local government workers. State plans are required to be at least as stringent as the federal OSHA requirements. At this time, we are waiting for implementation guidance from MIOSHA and our insurance pool, MCRCSIP, which has been an extremely helpful resource throughout the pandemic.

I know this announcement will spark a lot of questions. We will provide more information to you as soon as we can.

I hope you can enjoy the nice weather coming our way this weekend.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
