November 10: Pancake Breakfast, Board Meeting & Veterans Day

Good morning,

I would first like to thank the communications team, facilities staff and, of course Jeff Mann, for all the hard work they did in coordinating and setting up yesterday’s (Pancake) Employee Appreciation Breakfast! Congratulations to our individual dry run winners and District 5 for the Golden Plow award. I had a wonderful time catching up with many of our current employees and retirees, as well as seeing our entire organization together in one room! Very seldom do we get that kind of opportunity. Additionally, thank you so much to everyone who participated in my sendoff video. As I am sure you could tell, the video and getting to work with you all, means a great deal to me 😊 I am so honored to have been a part of this organization.

During our board meeting this week, a handful of action items were approved, including several right of way acquisitions for the Stony Creek Rd Bridge Replacement project in Ypsilanti Township and the Whittaker Rd and Willis Rd Roundabout project in Augusta Township, both planned for the 2024 construction season. While these are necessary projects and do not require a lot of right of way, any time that we need something from a property owner it quickly gets complicated and often times expensive. Kudos to Curt Brochue for all his hard work in making this challenging process as smooth as possible so that we can move forward with these projects.

And lastly, I would like to remind everyone that this Saturday, November 11, is Veterans Day. This day acts as a reminder for the esteemed commitment and resilience of those who have sacrificed and served our country. Please remember to express gratitude to the veterans in your life, whether it’s your friends, family or a complete stranger!

It looks like this weekend’s forecast is calling for sunshine! I hope you find some ways to enjoy it.

Take care & stay safe,

Sheryl
