May 26: Memorial Day Weekend Is Here

Good afternoon,

It has been another busy week of our construction season and I know we are all looking forward to a long holiday weekend ahead of us.

Memorial Day can be a fun weekend but also a solemn one. It is a time when the nation honors and remembers those who have died fighting for our country. Americans have been celebrating Memorial Day since just after the Civil War. It was set in late May to ensure flowers would be in bloom across the country to decorate soldiers’ gravestones.

Memorial Day weekend is also the unofficial start of summer. This year, many of our favorite Memorial Day traditions are back (click here to check out a list of events planned throughout Washtenaw County), which is a lovely thing. AAA is predicting nearly 35 million people will travel by car over Memorial Day weekend. Please keep this in mind as you work on the roads today and if you are traveling this weekend.

I hope that you all take time to relax and enjoy the holiday weekend. Please also take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices that others have made to allow us these pleasures.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
