May 18: WC Emergency Operations Center Tour & Board Meeting

Good afternoon,

What a week it has been! We have been busy on many fronts. Construction is in full swing both with engineering and operations projects. Routine maintenance such as dust control and grading as well as pavement markings continue. Even the technical difficulties we experienced on Wednesday only slowed us down momentarily (thank you Dan, Josh and Chris for getting us back up and running!). I think  it is safe to say we are all looking forward to the weekend.

During our board working session this week, a handful of WCRC staff was able to take a tour of the Washtenaw County Emergency Operations Center, courtesy of Ben Pinette and Jeff Poinier. During this educational tour, their dispatch personnel stressed the importance of our role as first responders here at WCRC. Whether you are taking calls of residents reporting road hazards, or physically removing hazards from our roadways, I want to thank you for your service and role in making our county a safer place. When county staff was describing all the emergency efforts that took place during the February ice storm, they said the one thing they did not worry about were the roads, as they knew WCRC was prepared. It is clear that others recognize the hard work and expertise of our people.

During our board session, we hosted a public hearing about the abandonment of W. Delhi Rd, off Jackson Rd in Scio Township. A handful of township agreements were approved (only a few more left to go!), and our board accepted a natural beauty road petition for Warren Rd, between Nixon Rd and Dixboro Rd in Ann Arbor Township. WCRC will collect information and host a public hearing regarding this petition at a later date, which is all part of the natural beauty road law.

Lastly, keep your eye out for a project update for the Main Yard salt barn, as the contractor began the early stages of construction. WCRC plans to send out official project updates regarding the construction and progress of the project!

I hope you enjoy your weekend. It looks like we will have a nice one.

Take care & stay safe,

Sheryl
