March 24 – COVID Update

March 24, 2020

Good Afternoon,

As you know, Governor Whitmer’s Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives order took effect at midnight last night. Organizations and people across the state are scrambling to adjust to this new, unprecedented way of life.

Yesterday, I explained that the Washtenaw County Road Commission is a “critical infrastructure” provider as determined by the governor’s order and state/federal guidance. I know there have been questions from employees about that designation and the essential services that we provide.

I would like to assure you that maintaining our roads for first responders and the movement of goods and services throughout Washtenaw County is critical as we all deal with this global pandemic. We continue to gather information from peer road commissions, the county road association, other agencies and our legal counsel on how to best deliver “critical infrastructure services” during this crisis.

I’m working with our senior management team and we will be reaching out to TPOAM leadership to make sure we are doing everything we can to protect the safety of employees while adhering to both the governor’s executive order and our regulatory mandates to maintain our road system.

I ask for your patience as we work through this. I will continue to update you as we receive more information and make additional decisions.

Take care,

Sheryl
