March 18: Wash. Co. Declares State of Emergency

March 18, 2020, 2:38 p.m.

Good Afternoon,

Similar to other counties, the chair of the Washtenaw County Board of County Commissioners earlier today officially declared a State of Emergency for Washtenaw County due to the coronavirus pandemic. At this time, this declaration does not change anything for us operationally.

This designation does create the potential for either federal or state financial assistance for any “…necessary emergency protective measures for activities taken in response to the COVID-19 incident”. If you are involved with purchasing, please keep track of any costs that could be considered a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’m pleased to announce that we have hired Lewis Franklin, a part-time contractor with Midwest Maintenance Services, to help increase our disinfection and sanitization efforts at the main yard. Lewis is focused on sanitizing “touch points”, locations and components that are regularly touched by multiple people, such as door handles, light switches, counter tops and tables. Lewis will be focused on these areas in the main yard garage and shop including the drivers’ break room, mechanics’ break room and restrooms.

As a reminder, tomorrow (Thursday, March 19, 2020), we are switching to our “summer hours” schedule. Official business hours will be 6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday. Our lobby remains closed to the public, but phones and emails will continue to be monitored during our new business hours. We decided to make this switch to offer a little relief to employees facing childcare challenges and to reduce the number of times we congregate each week.

As always, please let me or your supervisor know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for all you do and please continue to stay safe,

Sheryl
