Good Afternoon,

I hope you had a nice weekend. Now that the dust has settled a bit from Friday’s unexpected vaccine scramble, I would like to provide a little more information.

Here’s our plan moving forward:

Updating our list

  • We are in the process of updating the list of employees who want the COVID vaccine. If you want to be vaccinated, please make sure HR is aware of your desire.
  • Our previous list was focused only on those interested in a vaccine and who were directly involved with winter maintenance. It now appears that the county health department is as concerned about a person’s age as they are about your role as an essential worker. The good news is that broadens the pool of potential candidates to our whole workforce, but it may affect prioritization.

Arranging appointments as they come available

  • If and when we get another call from county health with available appointments, we will consult the updated list and contact employees. We will prioritize employees based on any guidance that we receive from county health at that time.
  • Just like Friday, you may get very little notice prior to your appointment. You may be sent to EMU’s convention center or another vaccination location based on where the vaccines are available at that time.

Time/pay considerations

  • If HR sends you to a county vaccination appointment during regular work hours, you will be paid during that time (up to 4 hours).
  • If HR sends you to a county vaccination appointment outside of regular working hours, you will not get paid for your time to get vaccinated.
  • If you arrange a vaccination appointment yourself during regular work hours, you need to take annual leave for that appointment.
  • If you experience side effects from the vaccine (no matter where or when you get the vaccine) and cannot report to work, you will need to take annual leave. If you have any questions about annual leave, please talk with HR.

While I highly encourage everyone to get the vaccine, vaccination remains a personal choice. It is not a job requirement at this time. If you have any questions, please contact me or Nicole Peterson, HR Manager, (734) 327-6641.

This is another promising step in our battle to fight COVID. In the meantime, please continue to follow all the other safety guidelines we know so well – washing your hands, wearing your mask and practicing social distancing.

As always, please take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
