Dear WCRC Employees,
Employee safety is our #1 priority at the Washtenaw County Road Commission. The management team and I are closely monitoring the ever-evolving Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation and remain committed to doing everything in our power to help keep you safe.
According to the experts, practicing basic personal-hygiene measures remain important for preventing the spread of the virus:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
- Avoid handshakes
- Avoid contact with people who are sick
- Stay home when you are sick
- Clean and sanitize your workspace regularly (keyboard/mouse, steering wheel, equipment, etc.)
Governor Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have recently issued a detailed list of recommendations. Visit www.michigan.gov/coronavirus for the latest information from the state.
Based on the recommendations from the state, we are taking the following actions to help ensure the safest possible workplace for you:
- Increasing the frequency of cleaning and sanitizing efforts on all shared surfaces (doorknobs, restrooms, light switches, eating areas, etc). And while we thank our facilities group for their assistance with this, we should all be participating in this effort by taking care of our individual workspaces and those areas around us.
- Encouraging the public to conduct business with us remotely by:
- Calling us at (734) 761-1500
- Emailing us at [email protected]
- Visiting org
- Contacting us via WCRC Fix It, Facebook and Twitter.
Since one of the recommendations is to avoid large gatherings of 100 people or more, we have decided to postpone Spring Training, originally scheduled for April 30, to a later date. We will also evaluate whether there are other public events that we need to postpone or reconsider for our staff in light of current guidance and safe practices.
The directors and I are preparing for any further developments to this situation. We will continue to make decisions based on the expert advice provided by the Washtenaw County Health Department, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the US Center for Disease Control.
I will also continue to keep you posted as this situation evolves. Thank you for all your efforts!
Sincerely,
Sheryl
