As mentioned last week, Monday, July 12, is the last day to submit nominations for you or a co-worker to attend the 2021 MERS Conference in Grand Rapids on October 7-8.
I know a two-day conference about retirement sounds a little dull, but I can tell you from personal experience – it is a great conference. Our pension is an amazing benefit but can be difficult to understand. There are also scary examples of pensions that have gone bankrupt, but once you have heard all the protocols and investment strategies that MERS adheres to in managing our pension, you’ll know we are in good hands. Whether retirement is a long way away or you are thinking about submitting your papers soon, I promise you will learn new and helpful things if you attend.
This year we have decided to send 3 representatives to the conference. We will hold an internal election to select our 2021 MERS Delegates from the nominees in a few weeks. We will send one representative from TPOAM and one non-union staff representative along with a management representative. If you are selected as a staff delegate, WCRC will cover your conference fees, meals and hotel stay. Employees will be paid for 8 hours of work each day of the conference.
If you are interested in learning more about our pension program and retirement in general, I highly encourage you to submit your name or an interested co-worker’s name to Nicole by Monday.
