July 25: RIP Mack Isom, Berrien County

Good afternoon,

William “Mack” Isom was killed on Wednesday, July 20. Mack had been a Berrien County Road Department employee for 25 years. According to his obituary, there wasn’t a piece of equipment he couldn’t operate or a job he couldn’t do. Click here to read more about Mack. He is already deeply missed by his family and friends.

While the exact details of the crash are still under investigation, we know that Mack was clearing a fallen tree in the road when he was hit by a motorist. That motorist has been arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death.

To express our condolences to the entire Berrien County Department, we are sending a WCRC vehicle to participate in the funeral procession tomorrow morning and we will circulate condolence sheets for each yard to sign.

We will continue to monitor this investigation to see if there are any lessons learned that can be applied to our practices, but investigations take time.

In addition, Kraig has put together an SOS – Extra Newsletter. Supervisors – please review this safety talk with your employees by tomorrow morning. Talking about incidents like this are one way to help prevent tragedies in the future.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
