January 5: Board Meeting & ROW Award

Good morning,

As we return from the holidays, I want to take a moment to thank you for a great year and also share my excitement on welcoming this new year with you all as Managing Director. Over the years, WCRC has made phenomenal strides in improving our organization and roadways. The core of our success comes from the outstanding, hard work of our WCRC employees. I am eager to begin our continued work in 2024!

Our operations crews kick started this week early on Wednesday morning, treating our roadways. Due to the recent weather conditions, our operations crews have been balancing maintaining our saturated unpaved road system, while juggling winter maintenance activities. Both tasks are extremely challenging on their own, let alone together. Your hard work is greatly appreciated.

During the board meeting this week, WCRC board approved the right-of-way acquisition required for the non-motorized pathway project, planned for construction this year, adjacent to Geddes Rd in Superior Township. Also approved was a Scio Township local road agreement and an Ypsilanti Township agreement for traffic control devices and pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Holmes Rd & Peabody St.

On a separate note, I am happy to announce our winners for the Recognize-Our-Workforce (ROW) Award for the fourth quarter of 2023. The two winners are Ben Betts and Andy Coppernoll, which were randomly selected out of the 30 nominations that were received. Ben, STL Heavy Truck Driver, was nominated for his hard work ethic and professional growth in the operations field. Andy, Shop & Stockroom Group Leader, was nominated for his pre-trip training assistance at the MCRCSIP Roadeo show, as well as his mechanical support during STL Dry Run, and for keeping the shop running smoothly during an absence of the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor. Congratulations to the both of you and keep up the exceptional work! Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination, our next drawing will be in March for the first quarter of 2024.

If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss with me, please reach out.

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend.

Thank you!

Matt
