January 19: Winter Maintenance, Working Session & Board Meeting

Good morning,

It’s been a busy week for our entire organization due to the recent weather conditions. First off, thank you to our operations crews who have been responding to the weather events and extremely low temperatures. Your many hours of hard work are crucial in maintaining our county road system after mother nature decides to remind us it is truly winter. Additionally, thank you to our traffic and safety team for addressing damaged signs and malfunctioning signals as quickly as possible in unfavorable weather conditions. A big thank you to our communications team for fielding hundreds of calls, triaging road hazards, and assisting with running a working session and board meeting.

During the working session this week, Nicole Peterson presented a draft CDL training policy which hopes to facilitate CDL training for new hires and current employees. Brent Schlack and Dan Troyka provided an informational presentation regarding the condemnation process, and how the legal procedure of condemnation can affect the schedule of our larger road improvement projects. Lastly, Mark McColloch provided the board with a detailed presentation of our permits section and their role in our organization.

During the regular board meeting, a township agreement for three speed humps was approved for Dayton Dr between Central Blvd and Packard Rd in Pittsfield Township. We are extremely appreciative of the relationships that we have with our townships, as it helps facilitate accomplishing improvements on local roads and providing safer neighborhoods to our residents.

It looks like we will be getting a break from the snow and may even see some sunshine this weekend. Stay warm out there!

Happy Friday,

Matt
