December 17: MERS and Taking Leave Procedure

Good morning,

It has been another weird weather week for mid-December but luckily for us, it is the last scheduled 5-day work week of the year!

We had a very productive supervisors meeting yesterday. A representative from MERS, who manages our pension program, joined us to talk about all the ways employees can learn more about the program and their specific benefit. I’ve asked each supervisor to share this information with their employees over the coming weeks – pandemic style, of course. We also reviewed a new interoffice procedure for taking scheduled annual leave (click here). With the holidays coming up, I know there will be a lot of people taking leave, myself included. We created this procedure to make sure we are communicating appropriately ahead of these absences and ensuring coverage of duties, as needed. Plus, we hope that this will minimize the number of times that you are contacted while you are off when others are unaware of your well-deserved leave.

Speaking of time off, as a reminder, we will be closed on Thursday, December 23 and Friday, December 24 next week. I hope Mother Nature cooperates so we can all enjoy some time off for the holidays.

Thank you again for all that you do. I hope you have a great weekend and that our brush with winter tomorrow is minor.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
