August 5: Millage Passed!

Good Afternoon,

As we wrap up the first week of August, I’m pleased that there isn’t much new to share on the coronavirus-front.

I’m also very happy to share that in yesterday’s election, the county-wide roads and non-motorized millage passed by nearly 77%! According to the unofficial election results, the millage renewal was passed in all but 1 precinct in the county. This means that even areas like Bridgewater Township and Northfield Township, which historically have not been supportive of road millages, passed this one.

I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in getting information out about the millage renewal. I believe that this successful result is a reflection of the hard work we all have put in over the past 4 years to improve the roads of Washtenaw County and to earn the trust of our residents. Great job!

Renewal of this millage means we can improve an additional 215 miles of road across the county over the next 4 years, including:

  • 160 miles of sealcoat
  • 26 miles of mill and overlay
  • 19 miles of pulverize and resurface
  • 7 miles of limestone resurfacing
  • 4 miles of concrete pavement repairs
  • 2 miles of paving unpaved roads (Zeeb Rd and Bemis Rd)
  • 3 intersection improvements

But before we exhaust ourselves thinking of all the work we have ahead, please take a moment to pat yourselves on the back and reflect on the accomplishments of the last 4 years. Thank you again for everything you do.

Take care,

Sheryl
