August 25: Summer Hours Coming to An End Sept. 8

Good afternoon,

Another week of August is in the books. More schools have started, fair season is nearly over and Labor Day is right around the corner. We are attending two community fairs in the next week – the Chelsea Fair Parade on Saturday, August 27 and the Saline Fair Big Truck Event on September 1.

We will resume our regular business hours (7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) on Thursday, September 8.

At last week’s Supervisors Meeting, staff asked about extending summer hours for a few more weeks. While I can appreciate the reasons behind the request, after much discussion we believe it isn’t in the organization’s best interest to extend this year. Days continue to get shorter with the sun rising after 7 a.m. in September. We still have work to be completed this season but feel that we can accomplish it by adding Fridays back into the schedule and using workday extensions, when needed. We also have staff who have made plans based on the current schedule and it is unfair to disrupt these plans on short notice.

I promise we will reevaluate the 2023 schedule next spring as we look at workload and knowing that many of us like the 4-day workweek.

I hope you enjoy the beautiful summer weather forecasted this weekend.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
