August 24: Construction Season & Leadership Retreat

Good morning,

As summer comes to a close, some of our large projects are beginning to wrap up! Our operations crews spent the week chugging along on their dust control operations, as well as tackling a handful of forestry and drainage projects throughout the county. On the engineering side, construction is complete on the Parker Rd Culvert Replacement project, as well as the Bemis Rd at Whittaker Rd Roundabout project and the Huron River Dr Resurfacing project. Thank you to those of you who worked together to get these projects done!

On Monday, our leadership team at WCRC attended a leadership retreat to discuss the overall mission and goals of WCRC. We have grouped our goals into three categories: Our People, Our Assets (roads, equipment and facilities) and Our Organization. Many of our goals are in progress such as improved employee engagement and increased transparency with equipment purchases. Some of our previous goals are complete such as creating a CDL program (we are now partnering with WCC and Trainco) while others, such as enhancing our emergency action plan, need more work. Of course, throughout the retreat, we had detailed discussions about the transition of the managing director position, and how that will impact our organization. Overall, it was a great opportunity for the leadership team to reflect on what we have done over the past year and how much work we have yet to do.

It looks like the temperatures are finally starting to drop as we get closer to the month of September. I hope you all enjoy one of your last summer weekends!

Take care & stay safe,

Sheryl
