Good Afternoon,

Well, you could really feel it in the air this week…fall is coming. This year, fall will be like we have never seen before, much like the entire year.

One sure sign of fall is kids going back to school. I know many families are trying to navigate new and potentially changing back-to-school plans. If you have concerns about how to balance work and family responsibilities, please speak with your supervisor and Nicole about the options available to you.

Another sign of fall is that our construction projects are starting to wrap up and summer hours are coming to an end. The last day 10-hour day will be Wednesday, September 9. Every year, we transition back to a 5-day workweek in early-fall due to fewer daylight hours and changing work demands. While this year is certainly a strange one, we believe the reasons for transitioning back to a 5-day work week remain valid and worthwhile.

We are also starting to prepare for fall and winter work activities. Dry run will still take place this year, but it may look different. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer.

This also seems like an appropriate time to remind everyone of the importance of working safely each and every day. Wearing proper PPE, using 3 points of contact, avoiding distractions and watching out for slips, trips and falls are all critical for you to go home safely at the end of the day. If you have an idea for how to work safer, you can submit a safety suggestion in the box located at each yard or online: https://www.wcroads.org/safety-suggestion-form/.

As always, thank you for all that you do. I hope you can get out to enjoy some of our remaining beautiful summer weather this weekend.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
