April 6: Good Friday Holiday Schedule

April 6, 2020

Good Afternoon,

I hope you were able to relax and unwind a little this weekend. It was certainly a beautiful weekend to get outside and enjoy our early spring!

This week is a short week for all of us. As you know, Good Friday is normally a vacation day at WCRC. Since we started our “summer hours” schedule early this year, employees who are working 10-hour shifts will also have Thursday, April 9 off for the holiday. Employees working 8 and 9-hour shifts will have Friday, April 10 off.

As you have probably heard, this weekend the Center for Disease Control updated its recommendation regarding face coverings for the general public. We have reached out to county public health officials and are waiting for their guidance on what this recommendation will mean for all of us as we continue our essential duties. I will send out another update once we get this guidance.

I’d also like to share another story of how employees are coping. This one comes from Mike Gibson, heavy truck driver from District 6.

“So my daily routine is simple…my daughter and I regularly clean the house and now that has extended to our cars.Mike Gibson, district 6

At work, I go in and grab my gloves and spray and disinfect the doors the handles and countertops along with the bathroom stalls and even though I’m driving the same truck everyday, I still disinfect the inside daily and I wear rubber gloves all day. We all keep our distance and go our separate ways. It’s crazy how much we get done cause were not dealing with traffic.”

Thanks to Mike for sharing and for doing your part to keep our workplace (and your home) as safe as possible. I know Mike isn’t the only one who has stepped up to help and I want to thank each one of you. Please keep these stories coming!

Finally, with our new way of doing business as remote workers, I want to make sure that we are still communicating and sharing as much information as possible.  If you know of anyone who would like to receive these daily communications and who is not currently signed up to receive emails, please let me know and we will have them added to our distribution list.

Thank you again for everything that you do!

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
