April 21 – Keep It Up!

Good Morning,

It is hard to believe that we have entered the fifth week of Governor Whitmer’s Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives Executive Order. I know these last 5 weeks have been challenging for all of us but based on data shared by Governor Whitmer yesterday afternoon, our collective efforts are working. The curve appears to be flattening and the entire state is focusing on how to safely reopen the economy. The details still need to be worked out by the governor, legislature and county officials over the next few weeks. But what I do know is this will not be an immediate return to “normal” for the state or for the Washtenaw County Road Commission on May 1.

I had a great preliminary discussion about reopening with the directors yesterday morning. I believe we are in an excellent position to continue to operate “remotely” as the economy slowly opens up. We are currently considering what work activities can be safely and slowly phased back in, but no decisions have been made yet. We will continue to monitor recommendations from health officials and government leaders and share with you our plan as it develops.

Please keep doing what you have been doing – maintain at least 6 feet of social distance, wash your hands frequently, support co-workers from a distance, check-in on loved ones virtually and stay home when not at work. It is working!

I appreciate everything each of you is doing to continue to serve the people of Washtenaw County while coping with these unusual times. The work that we do is both essential and important and I am extremely proud of the professionalism displayed by all of you.

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
