June 18: More Positive Trends and an Upcoming Holiday

Good Afternoon,

It has been another week of positive signs in the process of reopening Michigan. Governor Whitmer announced yesterday that schools should be able to offer in-person learning this fall. She promised a more detailed plan for schools by June 30. The governor also hinted that our region may enter the next phase of reopening by July 1 if positive trends continue. Definitely good news!

It has also been a busy week in our efforts to educate voters about the Roads and Non-Motorized County-Wide Millage that is up for renewal on August 4. This critical source of funding has enabled us to improve 170+ miles of roads over the past 3 years. If renewed, this 0.5 mill millage would generate approximately $4 million annually for us to improve 215+ miles of county roads from 2021 – 2024. We hosted our first of two virtual public meetings yesterday to help provide information about the millage to voters. We have also created a web page on www.wcroads.org to share information about the millage. Click here to check it out. Also, stay tuned for additional millage information and FAQs for our employees.

Lastly, as a reminder, we have the Fourth of July holiday coming up. Since July 4 falls on a Saturday, it becomes a bit complicated. Those employees working 10-hour shifts will have Thursday, July 2 off. Employees working 8 and 9-hour shifts will have Friday, July 3 off.

Once again, thank you for all your continued efforts to keep yourself and others safe.

As always, I hope you have a safe and restful weekend. And for all you fathers out there, I wish you a Happy Father’s Day. You play an important role in our lives!

Take care and stay safe,

Sheryl
