Good Afternoon,
Yesterday, I received a question from an employee that I thought others might have as well… ”Are you considering any layoffs due to the current situation?”
Right now, I do not anticipate any layoffs of WCRC staff.
Most of our revenue comes from the Michigan Transportation Fund (MTF) which is made up of revenue from the gas tax and vehicle registration fees. We do expect to see a decrease in MTF dollars since people are driving less and not buying many new vehicles under the current COVID-19 situation. However, thankfully, we budget conservatively and have a healthy fund balance. At this time, I believe that if we make minor modifications to spending this year and next, we can weather this storm.
We have a first quarter budget review at next week’s board working session. Dan Ackerman, our director of finance and IT, has already met with the other directors to review department budgets for the rest of the year. The board will review the budget and discuss any needed adjustments. I am confident that if we are careful, we can get through this year with our current staffing levels.
Thank you for asking this question! If you have other questions about this situation, please contact your supervisors, director or me.
Take care and stay safe,
Sheryl
