Cadillac Asphalt, a contractor for the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC), began resurfacing Parker Road near the intersection of Shield Rd in Scio and Lima Townships over the weekend of August 15th.
On Friday, August 15, 2025, crews milled (removed) the top layer of asphalt from that portion of Parker Rd adjacent to Dexter High School (DHS), including the intersection of Parker Rd at Shield Rd. Work on Saturday, August 16, 2025, included repairs to the underlying asphalt pavement. On Sunday, August 17, 2025, the contractor placed the new asphalt pavement. The work adjacent to DHS has been substantially completed, with permanent pavement markings yet to be installed.
What’s Happening This Week:
Weather permitting, work south of DHS will continue, including trenching of the shoulder areas and pulverizing of the existing asphalt pavement. This crushed material will be shaped and compacted, becoming the base material for the new asphalt pavement. The construction zone extends from the intersection of Parker Rd at Marshall Rd to just south of DHS.
What to Expect:
- Road Closure: Parker Road is closed to traffic south of Dexter High School.
- Local Access Maintained: Residents and others working within the closure area will be able to access their properties from the south, following the detour using Jackson Rd.
- School Access: Dexter High School remains accessible via Parker Rd at Shield Rd intersection.
- Next Steps: Over the next two weeks, weather permitting, crews will continue pulverizing and grading, asphalt paving, aggregate shoulders, and pavement markings.
This project is funded by the Four-Year Roads and Non-Motorized Millage, approved by voters last fall.
We appreciate your patience as we work to improve your roads.
WCRC will continue to send updates as the project progresses. Have questions? Contact Felix Weber, Project Manager – Design & Construction, (734) 327-6689, or via email at [email protected].

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is excited to announce a $9.4 million investments in improving approximately 37 miles of paved and unpaved roads across Washtenaw County during the 2025 construction season. These important projects are made possible through a combination of funding sources, including the 2025-2028 Four-Year County-Wide Roads and Non-motorized Millage, Federal Funds, Township partnerships, and Michigan Transportation Funds (MTF).
“This year’s resurfacing program is just one of the ways WCRC is committed to protecting the county’s transportation infrastructure,” said Brent Schlack, P.E., Director of Engineering and County Highway Engineer. “The successful completion of these critical projects requires a blend of resources and collaboration.”
Construction is slated to begin in mid-April and will continue through the fall of 2025, weather permitting. As part of this program, WCRC will also undertake necessary forestry work to maintain the safety and integrity of the roadways.
For a list of the specific projects, funding details, and anticipated traffic impacts, please refer to the links provided below for each project location.
Motorists will experience road closures with detours, daytime road closures, lane restrictions, and flagging operations. WCRC will maintain access for residents who live or work within the project limits during construction.
WCRC will host a virtual public information meeting regarding the County-wide Resurfacing projects on February 14, 2025. WCRC will post project updates online at wcroads.org. Residents can subscribe to road work advisories and project updates here.
