The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Superintendent of Maintenance. Employees in this job are responsible for and supervise the operations for the maintenance of roads and highways under the jurisdiction and responsibility of the Washtenaw County Road Commission.

The employee works within commission guidelines, collective bargaining agreements, regulations, policies, and procedures. The work requires knowledge of road and highway maintenance, personnel policies and procedures, and supervisory techniques. Performs related or additional work as required.

The ideal candidate should meet the following requirements: Ten (10) years in a road and/or highway maintenance occupation, six (6) of which are in a supervisory capacity.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis; possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; must have a valid driver’s license.

Salary and benefit package is commensurate with experience and education.

PERMIT COORDINATOR I | PERMITS & CONSTRUCTION: 

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Permit Coordinator I in Permits & Construction. An employee in this job performs the review of permit applications / plans and preparation / issuance of permits using judgment in making decisions in order to apply Road Commission procedures and regulations. Other work may include performing technical quality control inspection activities and a variety of commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement activities. Perform related duties as required.

This is an intermediate level position. The employee works in a developing capacity in performing job duties.

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years or more experience involving construction inspection and/or administration of permit activities; review of permit applications / plans, preparation / issuance of permits and technical quality control inspection activities. Additional experience may include performing commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement activities. Requires possession of an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Surveying Technology, or its equivalent. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

This position is in the AFSCME bargaining unit and has a starting hourly wage of $20.38

SIGNAL ELECTRICIAN  | SIGNAL SHOP:

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Signal Electrician in theSignal Shop.  The wage rate for this position is a Teamster Labor Grade 11, $16.39 -$24.51 per hour.

Requirement: Graduation from an accredited electrical or electronic trade school or its equivalent. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical traffic control devices. Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) class A. Possession of a journeyman electrician license. Possession of the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Certification Level II or the ability to obtain this certification within the 90 day probationary period. This position is filled by Employer appointment.

FINANCE CLERK I  | ADMINISTRATION:

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Finance Clerk I. An employee in this job perform a variety of accounting functions, primarily accounts payable and accounts receivable, to accomplish the desired results. Cross training is common with each employee filling in for and backing up the other members of the finance operation. While some commonality of activities exists, specific responsibilities are assigned for purposes of accountability.

This is the entry level. The employee performs a variety of finance and related duties in a developing capacity while gaining knowledge and experience in finance and office practices and the requirements of the department. 

The ideal candidate should have a minimum of one (1) year of progressively more responsible accounting experience. Possession of an Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business, or its equivalent.  This position is in the AFSCME bargaining unit and has a starting hourly wage of $15.94.

Temporary Positions

ROAD MAINTENANCE POSITIONS

We are looking for candidates who are available and flexible to work within our district garages located throughout Washtenaw County, on a temporary, full time basis.

Duties will include ongoing road and road maintenance including, but not limited to, physical labor, construction, brush and tree service, and related on-going road maintenance functions.
Qualified Candidates must possess:

  •  A current & valid Michigan Commercial Driver’s License “A”
  •  A High School Diploma or GED
  •  Ability to stand, sit, climb, bend, reach, pull, push, walk, talk, grope, grasp, lift, and have sufficient range of motion to physically perform all requirements of the position including ability to lift 100 lbs.
  •  Availability to work up to 40 hours a week, during normal operations
  •  Availability for 24 / 7 on call storm coverage, on as needed basis
  •  Pass a pre - employment driving skill assessment, as evaluated by WCRC
  •  Ability to be timely and punctual

  •  Competitive wage of $16.00 an hour
  •  Paid training and introductory orientation

Selected candidates will be required to pass a post-offer DOT regulated physical examination including drug screening and medical DOT certification, as administered by WCRC medical provider. Driving histories, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Safety driving performance and State of Michigan, will be reviewed for safety standard compliance.

Student Positions

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INTERN POSITION

Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking a part-time intern position for the Information Technology Department. This position will focus on providing low-level desktop hardware and software support, as well as maintenance and upgrades to desktops.  The student may also perform technical duties including nominal network administration.  Additional responsibilities will include website and database maintenance, as well as procedural and clerical duties specific to the I.T. Department. 

 

 

This individual should be well versed in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office.  Applicant must have some college pursuant to Computer Information, Microsoft Certification, or applied work experience.  Some database and/or network experience / knowledge would be beneficial.
