CIVIL ENGINEER | ENGINEERING: 

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Civil Engineer I in Construction. An employee in this job serves as an engineer able to design and oversee the construction of safe and efficient road, bridge and drainage projects. Perform a wide variety of fundamental and supportive professional engineering tasks. Perform related duties as required.

This is the entry level. As a trainee, the employee carries out a range of professional transportation engineering assignments while learning the methods of the work and WCRC Procedures & Regulations.

Requires possession of a Bachelor’s of Science degree in land surveying, civil engineering or related degree. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Desirable to have successfully passed the FE exam.  This position is non-union and has a starting hourly wage of $22.84.

HEAVY DUTY TRUCK MECHANIC | OPERATIONS: 

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking qualified Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic candidates. Applicants require a Group A CDL w/N (tanker) endorsement; a High School Diploma or equivalent; and Michigan motor vehicle mechanic certificates in Heavy Duty Truck Engine Repair - Diesel & Heavy Duty Truck Brakes and Braking Systems.

SIGNAL ELECTRICIAN  | SIGNAL SHOP:

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Signal Electrician in theSignal Shop.  The wage rate for this position is a Teamster Labor Grade 11, $16.39 -$24.51 per hour.  We also offer a comprehensive wage and benefit package. Requirement: Graduation from an accredited electrical or electronic trade school or its equivalent. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical traffic control devices. Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) class A. Possession of a journeyman electrician license. Possession of the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Certification Level II or the ability to obtain this certification within the 90 day probationary period. This position is filled by Employer appointment.

Temporary Positions

HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE POSITIONS

We are looking for candidates who are available and flexible to work within our six Highway Maintenance district garages located throughout Washtenaw County, on a temporary, full-time basis.

Duties will include: 

Ongoing road and highway maintenance including, but not limited to, snow-storm road plowing/salting and related ongoing highway maintenance functions.

Qualified Candidates must possess:

  • A current & valid Michigan Commercial Driver’s License “A”
  • Availability from December 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015
  • Availability to work 40 hours a week, during normal operations
  • Availability for 24 / 7 on call storm coverage, on as needed basis
  • Pass a pre-employment driving skill assessment, as evaluated by WCRC
  • Ability to be timely and punctual
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds

Student Positions

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INTERN POSITION

Washtenaw County Road Commission is seeking a part-time intern position for the Information Technology Department. This position will focus on providing low-level desktop hardware and software support, as well as maintenance and upgrades to desktops.  The student may also perform technical duties including nominal network administration.  Additional responsibilities will include website and database maintenance, as well as procedural and clerical duties specific to the I.T. Department.  

This individual should be well versed in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office.  Applicant must have some college pursuant to Computer Information, Microsoft Certification, or applied work experience.  Some database and/or network experience / knowledge would be beneficial.
