Latest Updates

October 20, 2021 Wagner Rd: Pavement Markings Are Here!

We are continuing to make great progress on the Wagner Rd Safety Project in Lodi and Scio Townships.

Our pavement marking contractor applied the longline pavement markings earlier this week. The remaining pavement markings and centerline rumble strips will either be completed sometime in November or possibly carry over into the 2022 construction season. We will send out another update once we have more information on the schedule.

If you have any questions, please contact Elena Yadykina, engineer – Traffic and Safety, (734) 327-6675, yadykinae@wcroads.org.

P.S. The signal at the intersection of Liberty Rd and Wagner Rd is currently in the process of being restored. We expect the signal to be functional again in the next week or so. Thank you for your continued patience regarding this signal restoration.

October 7, 2021 Wagner Rd: Tail End of Wagner

There has been a lot of progress on the Wagner Rd Safety Project in Lodi and Scio Townships.

The intersection of Wagner Rd and Waters Rd was reopened on Wednesday, September 29. Since then, our operations crew completed the seal coat on Wagner Rd to extend the life of the pavement. Click here to read more about this practice.

Also, our contractor has completed turf restoration, flashing beacon installation and other miscellaneous punch-list items. Overall, the majority of the intersection work has been completed. The remaining work includes placing permanent pavement markings and centerline rumble strips, both of which will be completed at a later date.

If you have any questions, please contact Elena Yadykina, engineer – Traffic and Safety, (734) 327-6675, yadykinae@wcroads.org.

P.S. We have been getting a lot of questions regarding the traffic signal at the intersection of Liberty Rd and Wagner Rd. The traffic signal will be restored as soon as DTE is able to install new utility poles. They are currently working on immediate storm response. Thank you for your continued patience as we work to restore this intersection.

October 5, 2021 Lane Restrictions: Wagner Rd (Lodi, Scio Twps)

WHEN: Starting today, Tuesday, October 6, 2021

WHERE: Wagner Rd between Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Liberty Rd in Lodi and Scio Townships

WHY: Preventative maintenance – fog seal

BACKGROUND: Starting today, Tuesday, October 6, 2021, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will begin a preventative maintenance fog seal project on Wagner Rd between Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Liberty Rd in Lodi and Scio Townships.

The work on this road is expected to be completed by the end of the week. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions.

Fog seal is another thin layer of liquid asphalt placed on top of a recent chip seal that helps to seal in the chips and further protect the pavement.

The work will be conducted under lane restrictions to allow the fog seal to cure. WCRC will return to this area in a few weeks to place permanent pavement markings.

CONTACT: If you have any questions, please contact Ken Harris, superintendent of maintenance, (734) 327-6696 or via email at harrisk@wcroads.org.

September 16, 2021 Wagner Rd: Light at the End of the Tunnel

There will be a lot of moving parts on the Wagner Rd Safety Improvement Project in Lodi and Scio Townships over the next 2 weeks. We ask for everyone’s patience as we work to coordinate multiple project tasks in a short timeframe.

Here are some of the major items we have left to do at the intersection of Waters Rd and Wagner Rd in Lodi Township:

  • Pave top layer of asphalt
  • Place gravel shoulders
  • Install guardrail
  • Install overhead flashing beacon
  • Restore turf
  • Misc. punch list items

In addition, we are planning to chip seal then fog seal Wagner Rd between Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Liberty Rd in Lodi and Scio Townships. Chip seal and fog seal help to seal pavement and extend its life. Click here to read more about this practice.

Once the chip seal and fog seal is completed, our contractor will return to Wagner Rd sometime this fall to place permanent pavement markings, centerline rumble strips, signage and other punch list items.

All of this work is, of course, weather dependent and the schedule is pretty fluid. If you have any questions, please contact Elena Yadykina, engineer – Traffic and Safety, (734) 327-6675, yadykinae@wcroads.org.

September 8, 2021 Wagner Rd: Pave the Day

We continue to make great progress for the Wagner Rd Safety Project at the intersection of Wagner Rd and Waters Rd in Lodi Township.

Last week our contractor poured the concrete for the new curb and graded the road base for the new turn lane. This week our contractor plans to pave the first layer of asphalt for the new turn lane. Once completed they will begin to mill the existing asphalt for the remainder of the intersection before repaving and applying a seal coat.

While all this is great news, we do expect the road closure to last until the end of the September now due to some scheduling issues from weather and contractor availability.

If you have any questions concerning this work, please contact Elena Yadykina, engineer – Traffic and Safety, (734) 327-6675, yadykinae@wcroads.org.

September 1, 2021 Wagner Rd: Curb Ahead!

We are really moving things along at the intersection of Wagner Rd and Waters Rd in Lodi Township. This element of the Wagner Rd Safety Project includes widening the intersection to install a left turn lane and installing a flashing beacon.

Our contractor has been installing several culverts and widening the road before installing the left turn lane. Later this week they will be pouring the concrete curb for the new lane configuration.

If you have any questions concerning this work, please contact Elena Yadykina, engineer – Traffic and Safety, (734) 327-6675, yadykinae@wcroads.org.

February 3, 2021 Project Announcement: Wagner Road (Lodi and Scio Twps)

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is pleased to announce it will complete safety improvements along Wagner Road between Liberty Road and Huron River Drive in Lodi and Scio Townships during the 2021 Construction Season.

What will the improvement look like?

There are a number of safety improvements planned, including:

  • Replacement of two crossroad culverts on Wagner Road south of Liberty Road in Scio Township
  • Construction of left-turn lanes on Wagner Road at Waters Road in Lodi Township
  • Installation of a flashing beacon at the intersection of Wagner Road and Waters Road
  • Installation of a centerline corrugations and new pavement markings along the entire section of Wagner Road

Why this section of road?

After reviewing crash history and traffic patterns along the Wagner Road corridor, WCRC’s traffic and safety section applied for two safety grants through the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Improvement Program. WCRC was awarded these grants in 2020 for 2021 construction. Click here to see all the grants WCRC staff are pursuing.

When will this project be completed?

Construction is expected to begin in early-summer 2021. Some trees near the intersection of Wagner Road and Waters Road need to be removed to accommodate proper drainage and a more modern road design. Due to environmental restrictions, these trees will be felled before March 31, 2021.

WCRC estimates the culvert replacements will take approximately 4 weeks and intersection work will take approximately 8 weeks, weather pending. There will be two different detours for culvert and intersection work that will not overlap and intermittent road closures for other work. WCRC will issue road closure advisories ahead of these planned closures.

How can I get more information?

WCRC will hold a virtual public information meeting on Monday, February 22, 2021, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. via Zoom. In addition, click here to visit WCRC’s project page to subscribe to project update emails.
