September 21, 2020 Old US-12 Road: Culvert in Place

Our contractors continue to make steady progress on the Old US-12 Road Culvert Replacement Project in Sylvan Township. The culvert was placed onto the prepared creek bed this morning. Our contractor is now working to rebuild the road base around the new structure.

Sylvan Township Hall and the Michigan State Police Sylvan Detachment remain accessible to traffic from the southwest.

September 16, 2020 Old US-12 Road: Demo-ing

It has only been a few days but our contractors are already making good progress on the Old US-12 Road Culvert Replacement Project in Sylvan Township. The old culvert has been removed and they are now assembling the new aluminum box culvert and preparing the creek bed for its placement.

Sylvan Township Hall and the Michigan State Police Sylvan Detachment remain accessible to traffic from the southwest.

September 14, 2020 Old US-12 Road: Project Begins

Earlier today, we closed Old US-12 Road near I-94 in Sylvan Township for a culvert replacement project. Old US-12 is closed to ALL traffic at the culvert location (see graphic below). Sylvan Township Hall and the Michigan State Police Sylvan Detachment are accessible from the southwest.

We hope to have the project completed and road reopened by mid-October.

WHEN: Starting Monday, September 14, 2020

WHERE: Old US-12 Road between just northeast of the Sylvan Township Hall driveway and the I-94 ramps in Sylvan Township

WHY: Culvert replacement

BACKGROUND: On Monday, September 14, 2020, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will close Old US-12 Road between just northeast of the Sylvan Township Hall driveway and the I-94 ramps in Sylvan Township for a culvert replacement.

The culvert replacement is expected to be completed by mid-October. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions.

Sylvan Township Hall and the Michigan State Police Sylvan Detachment will be accessible from the southwest throughout construction.

WHY: The Washtenaw County Road Commission will hold a virtual meeting to share information about the culvert replacement project planned this fall on Old US-12 Road in Sylvan Township. Construction is expected to begin in mid-September and be completed by early-November.

The virtual meeting will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 10 a.m. There will be a brief presentation followed by time for questions from the audience. A recording of the meeting will be posted to www.wcroads.org after the meeting ends.
