Latest Updates
We are making a lot of great progress on the Maple (Foster) Rd Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Ann Arbor Township. Our contractor has installed the new curb and spillways which will improve drainage and prevent erosion around the bridge foundation.
The temporary enclosure has been installed around the bridge and the process to remove the old paint has begun. This process will continue next week and once complete, the new paint will be applied. We are also planning to install the new guardrail later next week.
Just a reminder the bridge remains closed to all traffic, including river traffic and non-motorized users, until rehabilitation is complete. Click here for the detour route.

Bridge rehabilitation is expected to begin on the E. Delhi Rd bridge in Scio Township and the Maple (Foster) Rd bridge on Wednesday, July 6. While we are planning to close the bridges on July 6, the exact start date of the closures is reliant upon the weather and contractor scheduling. We will continue to provide updates as they are available.
The bridges will be closed to ALL traffic during rehabilitation – including river traffic. We are expecting the E. Delhi Rd bridge to be closed for approximately 2 weeks and the Maple (Foster) Rd bridge to be closed for approximately 12 weeks. A detour will be posted for each bridge – E. Delhi Rd bridge detour map and Maple (Foster) Rd bridge detour map. We shared a lot more information about this project in the virtual construction information meeting. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our virtual public meeting on Thursday, April 7, regarding the planned bridge rehabilitation projects on the E. Delhi Rd Bridge and the Maple (Foster) Rd Bridge over the Huron River in Scio and Ann Arbor Townships. If you were unable to attend the virtual meeting, click here to view the meeting recording.
The closures for the two truss bridges are scheduled to begin in early July. The E. Delhi Rd Bridge in Scio Township is expected to be closed for approximately 2 weeks, weather pending. The Maple (Foster) Rd Bridge in Ann Arbor Township is expected to be closed for approximately 12 weeks, weather pending.
During the work, the bridges will be closed to ALL traffic. The full closure is necessary due to the space required to conduct the painting operation and will include all traffic over the bridge (vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian) as well as closure to river traffic under the bridge. A work platform will be placed under the bridges and will prohibit all river traffic from passing under the bridges.
This project will include cleaning the E. Delhi Rd truss bridge as well as painting a portion of the bridge. The Maple (Foster) Road truss bridge will be completely repainted, and improvements to the road approach drainage and guardrail will be completed.
A detour will be posted for each bridge (E. Delhi Rd Bridge Detour and Maple (Foster) Rd Bridge Detour).
Due to the nature of the work to be performed in maintaining these historic and much beloved metal truss bridges, the work must be performed during the time of year when weather conditions are more likely to be conducive to cleaning and coating (painting). We appreciate the users’ patience while we perform this work.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is pleased to announce it will rehabilitate and paint the E. Delhi Rd and Maple (Foster) Rd bridges over the Huron River in Scio and Ann Arbor Townships.
Why? Painting of steel bridges is a cost-effective way to help preserve and extend the service life of these historic structures.
What will the process look like? WCRC has contracted a professional bridge painting company to conduct this work. In order to perform this work, both single-lane bridges must be closed to ALL traffic during the project.
When will this project be completed? Our contractor plans to begin work on both bridges in the Spring of 2022. We estimate that the E. Delhi Rd Bridge in Scio Township will be closed for approximately 4 weeks and the Maple (Foster) Rd Bridge in Ann Arbor Township will be closed for approximately 12 weeks.
Road advisories and project updates will be sent out once the project schedules are confirmed with the contractor next spring.
How can I get more information? WCRC will hold a virtual public information meeting in the spring of 2022, prior to the start of this project. In addition, click here to visit WCRC’s project page to subscribe to project update emails.
