August 25, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Rd: Another Step Closer

We’re another step closer to reopening Cavanaugh Lake Road in Sylvan Township. Last week, our contractors placed the “riprap” stones along the new culvert to help prevent erosion and they placed gravel shoulders along the roadside. Next up is more slope restoration work this week and guardrail installation. We are hoping to reopen the road in the next week or two if the weather continues to cooperate.

Until then, the road remains closed to all traffic. If you have any questions, please contact Nate Murphy, project manager, (734) 327-6647, murphyn@wcroads.org.

August 18, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Rd: Approaching the End

It is paving week on the Cavanaugh Lake Road bridge replacement project in Sylvan Township! Our contractors placed the asphalt road approaches yesterday and will place the gravel shoulders soon.

We are getting closer but the road remains closed to all traffic. We need to install guardrail, apply pavement markings and place permanent signs before the road can be reopened.

If you have any questions, please contact Nate Murphy, project manager, (734) 327-6647, murphyn@wcroads.org.

August 11, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Rd: Deck Work

It has been a very productive few weeks on the Cavanaugh Lake Road bridge replacement project in Sylvan Township. Our contractor poured the concrete bridge deck last week. As the concrete continues to cure, our contractor has started the prep work for the asphalt road approaches.

Once the approaches have been completed, we still need to place gravel shoulders, install the guardrail and apply pavement markings before the road can be reopened.

If you have any questions, please contact Nate Murphy, project manager, (734) 327-6647, murphyn@wcroads.org.

July 29, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Rd: In with the New

We continue to make steady progress on the Cavanaugh Lake Road bridge replacement project in Sylvan Township. Last week, our contractors demo’d the old structure and placed the new aluminum box culvert. This week they are placing the wingwalls on each end of the new structure and backfilling the area in preparation for the road subgrade and concrete pavement.

If you have any questions, please contact Nate Murphy, project manager, (734) 327-6647, murphyn@wcroads.org.

July 22, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Rd: Out with the Old

This week is demolition week on the Cavanaugh Lake Road bridge replacement project in Sylvan Township. Our contractor began dismantling the existing bridge yesterday. Once the old bridge is completely removed, our contractor will begin preparing the area for the new structure.

As a reminder, the road is closed to all traffic during construction including bicycles and pedestrians. Trespassing on the railroad tracks is not ever permissible and is very dangerous. This action could result in a misdemeanor punishable with jail time and/or a fine.

If you have any questions, please contact Nate Murphy, project manager, (734) 327-6647, murphyn@wcroads.org.

June 22, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Rd: Closure Expected Early-July

It is nearly time for us to begin the bridge replacement project on Cavanaugh Lake Road over Mill Creek in Sylvan Township. Our contractor is making preparations to close Cavanaugh Lake Road between Deerfield Ct and Campolina Rd in early-July. Once construction begins, the road will be closed to all traffic for approximately 3 months and a detour will be posted.

Digital message boards will be placed near the project area in advance of the road closure and we will issue an advisory once an exact start date has been determined.

February 12, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Road: Start Date Pushed to July

Unfortunately, due to continued delays from the railroad in granting required permissions to work within the railroad right-of-way, along with environmental restrictions at the site, the Cavanaugh Lake Road Bridge Project has been postponed to July 2020.  July is the earliest we can begin due to environmental restrictions on the stream that are in effect April – June.

The new plan is to close the road after the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The road will be closed for approximately 3 months while we replace the bridge.

There will be a pause in project update emails until we get closer to the road closure. A road closure advisory will be emailed and digital message boards will be placed near the project area in advance of the road closure.

Thanks for your patience during this process. If you have any additional questions, please contact Nate Murphy, project manager, (734) 327-6647, murphyn@wcroads.org.

January 28, 2020 Cavanaugh Lake Road: Start Date Still TBD

Unfortunately, our contractor is still waiting for all the necessary permissions needed to work within the railroad right-of-way on the Cavanaugh Lake Road Project in Sylvan Township. We are hoping to begin construction sometime in February. A road closure advisory will be emailed and digital message boards will be placed near the project area in advance of the road closure.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Nate Murphy, project manager, (734) 327-6647, murphyn@wcroads.org
