Latest Updates
The new traffic signal at the intersection of Bemis Rd and Carpenter Rd on the border of Pittsfield and York Townships is now operational! WCRC crews removed the signal bags today and placed the signal in flash mode (flashing red lights in all directions). Early next week, we will change the signal to stop-and-go mode (the traditional red, yellow and green lights).
We have a few minor punch-list items to complete this week at the intersection. Please continue to give us room to work as you travel.
Thank you for your patience on this project. Questions? Please contact Jeff Young, project manager (734) 327-6671, or via email at youngj@wcroads.org.
Well, it has been a long time coming but we’re nearing completion of the new traffic signal at the intersection of Bemis Rd and Carpenter Rd on the border of Pittsfield and York Townships.
WCRC crews have been onsite over the past few weeks running wires and hanging signals. Once all of the signals have been hung, we will remove the signal bags and energize the signals into flash mode (flashing red lights in all directions). After approximately one week of flash mode, we will change the signals to stop-and-go mode (the traditional red, yellow, green lights).
We hope to have the signal in stop-and-go mode by mid-May, weather pending. The intersection remains open to traffic, all signal work will be completed under intermittent lane restrictions.

Despite a soggy 10 days, we are making great progress at the intersection of Bemis Rd and Carpenter Rd on the border of York and Pittsfield Townships. Our contractors are working to widen the NE part of the intersection and have replaced one large crossroad culvert. They have also removed section of the existing curb and are preparing to place new curb soon.
Today, they began milling the road approaches on Bemis Rd. This work will continue into next week.
The intersection remains open to traffic, but delays are likely due to lane closures. WCRC encourages motorists, emergency services and others to use an alternate route.
